Directors Statement

"Secret Thoughts of Angel's was originally conceived as a prequel to a low budget feature I was trying to write. It struck me as I was cutting my teeth with screenwriting that I also wanted to make these films, but with no experience I'd better come up with a game plan. The first step was to make a short or two, see if I wasn't wasting my time dreaming of being a director when I might ultimately hate it. Luckily the experience was up there with the highlights in my life.

The inital concept I think rose from a small passage I'd read in Umberto Eco's 'Foucault's Pendulum' about an Alchemist who was obsessed by numbers and wrote a treatise on the ability to view other people's minds remotely. This idea lodged somewhere in the back of my brain. The low-budget film I developed revolved around a guy who's sister had gone missing having got mixed up with some dubious characters. So when I was looking for ideas for shorts, I realised that I could shoot Jess' story. The whole of SToA is effectively the back story to a feature film.

Having studied Religion at College, I found the whole concept of secret societies and secret knowledge very exciting, so it didn't take me long to fish out the idea of the mind reading alchemist and develop that into a extended philosophy involving Angels, Astrology and Time Travel. You could say, this film is quite 'diabolical'"
